The Benjamin School is always looking for community service opportunities. We are hoping this one will be a bit different as it is an attempt to bring adults and children together in a meaningful experience by creating a common bond of service and honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. On Monday, January 20, 2014, we are hoping to fill two buses to help our local community. The CROS Ministries gleaning program has been recovering produce in Palm Beach and Martin Counties for many years, distributing it free-of-charge to the needy in Palm Beach County and beyond. This is produce that cannot be sold in stores, but is still of good quality to be eaten. We are hoping to provide a team of children and adults the experience of being in a field and picking produce that they know is going to provide hungry people with nutritious food they cannot get anywhere else. Buses will leave campus around 8:15 a.m. When the event gets closer, we will know exactly where we will be headed, but it is most likely the Boynton Beach/ Delray Beach area. This will be a half-day activity, but we hope to include a stop for lunch on the way back. Please RSVP to email@example.com if you are interested. Each participant must complete the liability waiver and medical form which can downloaded here and will also be available on your parent portal on the website. This activity is not recommended for children under the age of 5, and gleaners should be able to bend over and be able to lift 20 pounds worth of produce. Two or three people should be able to lift between 50 to 60 pounds.
