As we near the end of the academic year, there are several opportunities for us to acknowledge success. The more traditional achievements show up in the form of milestones and awards, but what can be lost in looking at the finish line is the incredible growth that happens during the journey.

At our annual Spring Music Festival, I was in absolute awe of the progress our musicians have made since their winter concert. Progress in an artistic endeavor is not always easy to see, but the vast improvement in skill and precision was on a lovely display.

The same also holds true for our visual artists, many of whom started the year trying a new medium for the first time and had the joy of watching their work evolve throughout the course of the past nine months.

For our younger Buccaneers, this growth can be seen in their confidence performing in the Barker Center (often for the first time), acquiring an increasingly broad vocabulary in multiple world languages, and running to class from carline with tremendous pride in their independence.

And for our middle school students, this growth is often realized in hindsight as they look back at their nerves as 6th graders embarking on their first overnight field trip, to their quiet surety preceding their 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.

Whatever the journey has looked like for your child(ren) this past year, I hope you can reflect back on these tremendous opportunities for growth with pride and appreciation for how far they have come!
