It’s always a privilege to help open the Lower School Olympic games. As our first through fifth grade students proudly parade around the field, I love to look at our Benjamin parents who are grinning from the sidelines. As educators, we often witness joy in the eyes of our students, but it's just as big of a rush to see our parents' happiness shine on a day like this.
Many schools across the nation host an annual field day but very few take on an endeavour such as the Olympics. For 35 years, each TBS homeroom has adopted a country to represent, and the month of January has centered around learning its customs and cultures. My wife Holly and I traveled to Spain this past December, and we loved visiting 4CH to share what we learned on our journey. In classrooms around campus, special guest speakers shared stories of the world. And of course, the athletic portion of the event brings a huge level of excitement. I love looking at the finish line - not to see who wins - but to see the enormous congratulatory hug each student receives from their teacher.
