The Musical Theatre program at TBS is a unique performance and studio experience for both the serious performer as well as the novice. Benjamin students have the opportunity to take electives in drama, acting, dance and chorus during the academic day, and can also participate in the fall musical and/or annual Variety Show, where musical theatre ensemble pieces are regularly staged. Our Musical Theatre program strengthens skills, hones instincts and fosters a passion for performance.
Acting, directing, set design, sound design, lighting, costuming, set construction, theatre history and theory are just the starting point as Drama students learn to use various artistic disciplines to create theatrical performances. Acting techniques include oral interpretation, the use of gestures and body language, the craft of character creation and the use of space. Advanced students develop a portfolio of at least two contrasting monologues that may be used for school, community theatre or college program auditions.
In our state-of-the art performing arts theatre, Benjamin Hall, students have the opportunity to work behind the scenes or take center stage to showcase their talents.
