Coach Harbeck Named NHSACA Coach of Year Finalist

Coach Toby Harbeck was named a finalist for the 2025 National High School Athletic Coaches Association national coach of the year in the sport of golf.

Harbeck is one of eight finalists from across the country who will be honored during an awards banquet in Rapid City, SD the evening of June 25. The NHSACA will name the national coach of the year in nineteen recognized sports categories during the banquet.

Athletic Director Ryan Smith ‘93 said he is tremendously proud of Harbeck’s “well-deserved and huge honor.”

“Coach Harbeck has been incredibly dedicated to the school, students, and golf program during his outstanding career at The Benjamin School. Not only has he won four state golf championships, but he has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of his students as a teacher, coach and administrator,” he said.

Harbeck’s nomination was based on “longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning percentage,” according to the organization.

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association is the oldest coaches association in the country and has been recognizing coaches of the year since 1978.
