Middle School Students Affirm Commitment to Honor Code During Annual Assembly

Middle School students affirmed their commitment to the school’s Honor Code during an annual ceremony in the Barker Performing Arts Center this week. The ceremony, a cornerstone of the middle school experience, emphasized the importance of living a life of character and integrity both inside and outside of school.

Head of Middle School Chuck Hagy told the audience of students they are lucky to be members of a community that places such a high value on honor, urging them to take pride in their commitment to the Honor Code and to consistently model honorable behavior.

“Honor reminds us that it's not the grades we make or the awards we win that really matter,” Hagy said. “Rather, it’s how we earn those grades and what we do to earn those awards that make us who we are.”

Hagy’s message reflected the school’s commitment to the 12 Benjamin Values, encouraging students to live these values out in their daily lives.

Middle school math teacher and coach Erica Lazarus served as this year’s keynote speaker, sharing a powerful message about the life of honor led by her late father. Lazarus encouraged students to likewise commit themselves to a legacy of service.

“Everything you do represents you and who you are,” she said. “It might be something little, but those little things add up to a lot. Everyone has the power to make a difference.Make the choice to give your all in everything you do. I hope you leave here today inspired to live your best life for yourself and those around you.”
