Darren Lowe Assumes Position As Benjamin’s Head Lacrosse Coach
Darren Lowe, a three-time All-American NCAA lacrosse player at Brown University from 1989 to 1992, has joined The Benjamin School as the varsity boys Head Lacrosse Coach.
Lowe, whose father Alan is in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, says he has had a lacrosse stick in his hands since the age of two.
In three of Lowe’s four seasons at Brown, the team made the NCAA tournament, with a tournament record of two wins and three losses. Lowe was a member of the US National team that won World Championships in 1998 and 2002. Last summer, he was Chairman of the selection committee for the current US National Lacrosse Team. He has received the Lt. Raymond Enners Award, the USILA national player of the year and the Jack Turnbull Award. He was inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2007.
Lowe is looking forward to his new season at TBS, which starts January 29th. He encourages all of his players to adopt time management strategies during high school and beyond.
“Get the school work done and out of the way as the athletic demands only grow,” he says.
Lowe has served as an assistant on Riordan Cheatham’s Benjamin middle school coaching staff for the last three years. Athletic Director Ryan Smith ‘93 says he is thrilled to have Darren as the new lacrosse coach.
“Shane Rye left very big shoes to fill, but we are so very fortunate that Darren accepted the opportunity. His level of experience is incredible as he has been involved and has experience at every level of lacrosse. He is also one of the greatest players in Division I college lacrosse history. His character, integrity and ability to mentor student-athletes are equally impressive,” says Smith.
